I have always been interested in art, with both my Mum and
Grandmother being very artistic, I often found that I wanted to do the work
they did. They did most of their art as a drawing / painting medium but neither
of them did it as a profession. I did find that art was something I enjoyed and
even more so when I started attending Secondary School and took up art and
design as an option course for my GCSE’s,

In
my last year of secondary school I had started doing images on Photoshop for
several community Mods (modifications) teams on games. I was producing forum
signatures (which are imaged based), I also produced posters and banners to
promote the mod and helped create the template for the website / forum we were
using. After doing these images for other people that I played games with I found it was something that I rather enjoyed and wanted to further develop skills in.

I then started looking into graphic courses at colleges I attended Itchen College’s open day I found out about
their Graphic design course and what went on in it. I found that it clarified
what I had decided to do previously as a career. I appreciated graphical design
for its creativity in day to day usage, something that I did not realise at
first.
Attending college to study graphic design helped me to
develop the skills I had learned through experimenting with software, and to
understand new ways to create items such as posters, business cards etc. After
a few months of attending the course I began to use the knowledge I had learnt
to create logos and desktop wallpapers for a game mod that I was interested in.

During my time at Itchen I found that I looked up to my teacher Michael Viana. He was a the type of teacher who would say straight out if an idea wouldn't work and possible different ways to go about deciding on a idea, it was through having him as a teacher that I had finally found what I wanted to do as a career. Through studying Graphics in university I hoe to achieve my goal in creating work that will be recognised by others and help influence others to be interested into what goes on in graphics.
